April 14, 2010: An Open Letter to McDonald's

During a recent pre-St. Patrick’s Day visit to their favorite Sacramento area McDonald’s restaurant, BMTG resident sexologist and over-the-counter medicine man, Sandman, and his partner (not life partner) Gordka, were disillusioned to find that the Shamrock Shake was not available. After doing some research, the BMTG has found that there are people nationwide who are unsuccessfully searching for your chain’s trademark shake, which is offered at the Brother Nature-esque vague “select locations.”
The BMTG sees the Shamrock Shake as a staple of St. Patrick’s Day holiday fare, and is disappointed that the powers that be have made the unfortunate decision to make this exclusive offering available only at randomly scattered locations and not available at all in entire regions. Even though there are better shakes to be had elsewhere, the annual consumption of an official Shamrock Shake is a tradition that should be passed down to younger generations.
In light of the poor support of the Shamrock Shake by your company, the BMTG has decided to name the Chick-fil-A Mint Cookies and Cream Milkshake as the Official BMTG Shamrock Shake in future celebrations of St. Patrick’s Day. Further, Chick-fil-A will be placed in “Preferred Status” in the BMTG Food Guide, while McDonalds will be moved to “Bubble Status,” which is a slight step above “Undesirable Status.” To be considered for an elevation of status, McDonald’s must offer the Shamrock Shake at all locations during all future St. Patrick’s Day seasons. Because the next season is now almost a full year away, in a sign of good faith and to show that McDonald’s is serious in their desire to fix this egregious error, McDonald’s must also name May 2010 as Shamrock Shake Why Did We Abandon You? Month and offer the shake at a substantial discount for the entire month at all locations.
Naturally, McDonald’s may file an appeal at a cost of $3.00 if there is disagreement with this decision. See the BMTG website at usesoap.com for instructions on how to file and how long until the appeal is denied. Remember that the BMTG are the people you depend on. We cook your meals, we haul your trash, we connect your calls, we drive your ambulances, we guard you while you sleep, and we dance if we want to.
Sincerely,

May 4, 2010: Response from McDonald's Customer Response Center
Dear M. BMTG:
Thank you for taking the time to contact McDonald's. We appreciate your interest in our Shamrock Shake.
The Shamrock Shake is a "promotional" product offered for a limited time only. Since the decision to offer promotional products is made on a region by region basis instead of mandated by a corporate office, I have forwarded your comments to the McDonald's regional office in your area for thier consideration in deciding if they will offer the Shamrock Shakes to their customers next year.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact McDonald's and sharing your comments with us.
Sincerely,
